Unusual Noises Coming From Your Heater
Any unusual sounds should be considered a red flag. Even quieter sounds that don’t seem as alarming need to be taken seriously. A persistent clicking, rattling, or even a humming sound can be trouble for your heater. Either it is struggling to turn on, or something is loose and moving around during operation.
Loud noises are more obvious and usually indicate even more serious problems. The louder the noise, the bigger the problem. Something large, like the blower motor, may be loose and knocking as it moves. Or a fan blade is bent and either scraping or banging as it spins around.
There are so many reasons for loud and unusual noises, and they each need to be taken seriously. Even if you don’t know exactly what is wrong, you can call our team for service and we can help figure it out. Acting quickly will prevent additional damage that may leave your heater not working at all.
Bad Odors Coming From Your Heater
The air coming from your heater should never have a bad odor. If it does, something is wrong. There may be mold growing somewhere in the system or a component overheating, depending on what the smell is. Before you panic, remember that it is possible for your heater to bring in bad odors that exist elsewhere in your home.
For example, if you burn something on the stove then your heater may bring that bad odor in through the intake and spread it through your home. This isn’t an issue with your heater. But if you smell a bad odor that doesn’t have an explanation, you need to take action.
Lack of Heat or Airflow
You can have a combination of problems with airflow. The first is a lack of heat. This indicates that something is wrong with the heating elements or the ignition. You may feel steady airflow coming from the vents, but it isn’t hot enough to increase the temperature.
Alternately, you may hold your hand up to a vent and feel warmth with very little airflow actually blowing out. In this case, something is likely wrong with the blower motor that is preventing the heat from moving through the ductwork and blowing out into your home.
